This is a Captains Choice Tournament. It is the sole discretion of the captain and crew to participate.
All participants must comply with North Carolina Wildlife laws and USCG regulations.
Fishing will take place on Friday October 16th and Saturday October 17th, 2020.
Captain’s meeting and party will take place on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 7:00pm at Redfish Grill in Morehead City Awards Ceremony & Party will be at Redfish Grill on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 7:00pm.
Only registered boats with signed boat captain entrants qualify for prizes.
All fish must be weighed in from the boat in which they were caught. No overland transportation of fish.
Eligible species is the King Mackerel with a minimum fork length of 36 inches from the end of its nose to the fork in the tail.
This is a Big Fish tournament. The single biggest kingfish weighed may be eligible for a primary prize.
Each Boat may weigh one kingfish per day. That biggest fish may be eligible for Primary and Secondary prizes. Participants are encouraged to donate additional fish to the Tournament.
Junior Angler Awards are considered Secondary prizes. The Junior Angler must be registered as a participant in the tournament prior to tournament day and do activities to participate in the tournament. The Junior Angler must be 16 years or less of age prior to 16 October 2020 to be considered a Junior Angler.
All fish must be caught with rod and reel. Maximum of 6 rods fished at one time.
This tournament will have no checkout and no boundaries. Boats can depart and return from any inlet.
No lines in the water before 7:00 am – this includes jigging.
There will be no congregating of any boats- tournament, recreational or commercial, during fishing hours. Nothing shall be passed between boats.
In the event of an emergency, please assist as necessary and notify Tournament Officials as soon as possible. In a non-emergency event, if any boat is requiting assistance it may be obtained by a dedicated service vessel and not another tournament boat or other recreational vessel. The Tournament Officials should be notified immediately.
There is a mandatory check in at Portside Marina. All boats wishing to weigh, must be checked in promptly by 5:00pm. Please be mindful of your wake and do not rush the dock. Tournament official will recognize you once you are considered “checked in”.
Scales will open for weigh in at 3:30 pm and will be located at the Big Rock Landing docks on the Morehead City Waterfront. All participants should monitor VHF channel 68.
Boats must come to weigh in under their own power.
A boat member must present the eligible fish to the weigh master.
No mutilated fish will be weighed. A mutilated fish is a fish that is injured so that it impacts its fighting ability.
Hook and gaff punctures are acceptable.
Prizes to be awarded solely on basis of weight. In case of a tie, the first boat to weigh in will win.
A boat may only win one primary prize, per event. A boat may win more than one secondary prize.
If the tournament is cancelled, all entry fees paid will be returned less 10%. One day of fishing constitutes a tournament.
The tournament rules committee has the right to modify, add, delete, or adjust any and all rules at their sole discretion. The tournament committee decisions are final.
The tournament rules committee has the right to refuse entry from an applicant.
The breaking of any rule will constitute disqualification from the tournament.
Any prize winners are subject to a polygraph at the discretion of the tournament rules committee, and shall be polygraphed prior to awards.
All fish weighed in and donated become property of the NCTA KMT & Morehead City Open KMT.
Any advertiser, sponsor or tournament committee member entering the tournament in compliance with the rules, are eligible for any and all prizes.
All protest must be accompanied by $250 cash and submitted to the tournament rules committee in writing no later than one hour after the last fish has been weighed. A refund will be made if the protest is upheld, if the protest is not upheld, the money will become property of the Morehead City Open KMT. No participant aggrieved by any ruling of the rules committee or any tournament official shall recover from Morehead City Open King Mackerel Tournament, its officers, directors, sponsors, owners or employees in any forum a sum exceeding their registration fee.
All decisions made by the tournament rules committee will be final.
By signing below, this is considered a sworn affidavit adhering to all rules. This affidavit may be signed by the Captain or Crew Member, and shall apply to the entire team competing.
